$21,500,000 to $28,000,000, give or take.
That’s the price-tag attached to a comprehensive riverfront project that would prevent the downtown from flooding and turn the area into a destination for tourists — “The Landing,” they’re calling it.
Leo Foley of consultant Veenstra and Kimm says the project will happen in increments, if it happens at all, and will require the whole community to buy into it. The City is shooting for some major grants to pay for much of the flood-prevention work and Foley says about 50% of flood prevention costs go to floodwalls, which they’re also recommending.
