Workers on strike in front of the main entrance to the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown.
Strikers continue to picket at the entrances to the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown on the third day of an ongoing strike over a contract dispute with American Ordnance.
Members of Machinists Local 1010 and Teamsters Local 238 began striking on Tuesday at Midnight. Workers say they’re upset over losses in pension benefits and an increase in healthcare costs. They’re also looking for a higher raise. American Ordnance, which operates the plant, says that they offer a competitive wage and benefit package to employees.
Randy Krewson, a spokesman for the Machinists District 6, says that the unions are still in communication with American Ordnance, and that a face to face meeting has been scheduled for the near future.
Des Moines County Sheriff Mike Johnstone tells KBUR that strikers have been cooperative since the strike began. No incidents or complaints have been reported.
Calls to American Ordnance were not immediately returned Wednesday.
