Man Charged After Shooting Incident In Ottumwa

Ottumwa, IA (KYOU TV) – On Sunday morning, March 8th, the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call about a male subject with a gun shooting into their house on 74th St., just west of Ottumwa.

Wapello County Deputies responded to the residence and found that no one was injured in the shooting and found that the suspect was at large. Through the ensuing investigation Deputies and members of the Ottumwa Police Department identified the suspect as Jamie D. Ortiz.

The Wapello County Sheriff’s Office and the Ottumwa Police Department executed a search warrant at Ortiz’s residence and took Ortiz into custody without incident, located in the 100 block of South Ash Street in Ottumwa, Iowa.

As a result of the shooting incident, Ortiz has been charged with multiple felonies. They include burglary in the 1st degree, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, going armed with intent, felon in possession of a firearm.

Ortiz is been held in the Wapello County Jail in lieu of a $45,000 cash-only bond. All criminal charges are an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible.
